Republican Council Candidate Profile - Josh Roberts
I’ve called East Petersburg home for 14 years, raising my family here and getting to know this town beyond just an address. It’s a small community where neighbors know each other, where you can walk to local events, and where things generally work the way they should. I want to keep it that way, but I also want to make sure we don’t just stand still. A town like ours should thrive, not just function.
To me, local government is about making sure the basics are handled. Is our water clean and reliable? Are the streets safe? Is the trash and recycling removed? Do we have emergency services that respond when we need them? These things matter to all of us, and they deserve the same level of attention and accountability that any well-run business would demand.

I bring experience in both fast-paced decision-making and long-term planning. I work as a consultant for a global company, leading teams that train thousands of employees on critical systems while making sure we stay ahead of shifting regulations. Before that, I spent 20 years as a paramedic, taught EMS and healthcare courses at the college level, and conducted complaint and compliance investigations to ensure professionals were doing their jobs right.
In other words, I don’t just take things at face value - I dig in, get the full picture, and make informed decisions. That’s exactly the mindset I’d bring to Borough Council.

I’ve already been putting in the work for East Pete. Since 2021, I’ve served on the Planning Commission, making sure new development makes sense for our town. I’ve volunteered with the Events Committee, from picking up trash to selling carnival ride tickets, because community events bring us together and put a spotlight on our town for visitors. And for years, I’ve attended most borough meetings, not just to sit in the back row, but to ask questions and break down what’s happening and share it with the community through my website. What better way to spend Tuesday and Thursday evenings?
When things didn’t add up, whether it was inconsistencies from code enforcement, secrecy surrounding the failed fire services commission, or a traffic safety issue at Miller Road & Route 72, I didn’t just complain. Along with the help of a few citizens and key Council members, we were able to get a new vendor to handle codes enforcement, the citizens aren't paying taxes to supplement East Hempfield's citizens for fire service, and each side of Miller Road has dedicated left-turn arrows.

These are my goals, if elected:
Support our Borough Manager, employees, and hired experts to keep East Pete financially strong while planning for long-term sustainability and smart growth.
Help small businesses thrive by increasing engagement and visibility, ultimately strengthening our tax base.
Make it easier for residents to follow and participate in local government. Some examples include a new website that is easy to navigate and find information, providing more thorough borough meeting minutes that include submitted reports, and seeking ways to allow the public to attend meetings virtually.
Ensure that emergency services are provided in a timely manner and appropriately staffed - which also means ensuring that we appropriately fund them and engage in efforts that encourage retention of fire-service volunteers.
Continue improving our infrastructure, from water quality to road safety, and make smart investments for the future.
I don’t put effort into political extremes of either side, and you won’t see “paid for by (someone else)” on my campaign materials—because Borough Council should work for one group only: East Petersburg.
If you want a council member who will show up, ask the hard questions, and fight for what’s best for this town, I’d appreciate your support.
